Have you ever seen a polydactyl cat? That means a cat has 6 toes. Most of the time, polydactyl cats will have an extra toe on their front paw, but it is also possible for them to have an extra toe on their back paw. All cats carry the polydactyl gene in their DNA but most cats have 5 front toes and 4 back toes.

The tradition of naming cats after the famous still continues today at the Ernest Hemingway home in Key West. Although Hemingway passed in 1961, the home and museum is home to 40-50 polydactyl cats.
